Skanking in the air
When consumate party starters and festival favourites Smerins Anti-Social Club were asked by Nemone on BBC6 music to do a christmas cover version we knew they were gonna come up with something a bit special. The boy’s didn’t dissappoint when the unleashed this skanking cover version of ‘Walking in the air’ from the Snowman animation. I wonder if they’ll be able to persuade Aled ‘ranking’ Jones to voice it?!
You can download the track for free over at their website and also check out a video of the making of the tune, so go get involved!
Ante Sensi
Mr Blennd, best known for his mash ups on his own Rhythm’n’Booze imprint, has just unleashed this belter of a re-rub and what’s more he’s giving it away absolutely free!
‘Ante Sensi’ uses the instrumental of MOPs massive hip hop anthem ‘Ante up’ and pairs it up with the classic reworking of Under mi sensi by Mr Vegas, Alozade and Holow Point. Go get your fix here:
Brassroots
We first came accross these guys a couple of years back when band leader and ex member of SOS favourites Youngblood Brass Band Jerome Harper moved over to the UK, bringing his Trombone and a bucketload of ambition with him.
Since then, the band has been going from strength to strength, rocking countless festivals and parties all over the place, not to mention being the house band on the final Big Brother show.
If you haven’t had the chance to see them yet, I seriously recommend you get yourself down to one of their gigs (go to www.brassrootsmusic.com for more info), or failing that grab yourself a copy of their fantastic ‘Good Life EP’ which is out now and on heavy rotation on the Square One stereo. The 3 track Ep features top notch brass reworkings of Inner City’s ‘Good Life’, the White Stripe’s ‘Seven nation army’ and Radiohead’s ‘Karma Police’ and is guaranteed to get rumps shaking in even the most conservative of knees ups!

Move from ya sofa…
I’m loving the new Nextmen single just released by our good friends over at Nice Up! It’s called ‘Sofa’ and features French MC Pupa Jim. If you haven’t heard it yet, I advise checking it out via this wicked little video put together by DJ P…
The release also features a digital reggae workout courtesy of Roots Manuva’s producer du jour Wrongtom which revisits and reworks the classic ‘Tempo’ riddim.
Limited edition vinyl can now be copped over at Juno, with the digital release and remixes out in a few weeks, but you can preview all the tracks here on the Nextmen’s Soundcloud page.
